Our Story

Tambularts was born out of a community need for creative facilitation and the desires of the directors to spread their passion for the arts. We live in a world that continuously undervalues the arts, yet for many it is a source of income, freedom, gives the opportunity to feel alive and connect with oneself. With two of our staff from an education background, they began by initially working with children and running regular sessions around different arts topics. With our mission to make the arts accessible, we reinvested our profits into either running separate funded community projects and having an allocated number of spaces being reserved for children from lower income backgrounds on our weekend programme.

We are passionate about the power of the arts, and how it can have a strong influence over people’s actions and future behaviours. This is why our very first sessions were centered around themes of recycling, embracing the ability to be creative with something perceived as rubbish, and encourage a resourceful mindset. We also recognised the importance of skill-learning and being taught by professional artists – this helps others to see the arts as a viable future path and creates a deeper understanding of the arts, therefore valuing the process more and generating appreciation. As well as environmental issues, we have also tackled issues of discrimination through art and believe the arts is a tool for social change.

We like to keep things fresh and believe in consistent quality over quantity. We practice what we preach and value artists by making sure that one of our first priorities is to make sure they are paid decently and fairly. We believe that if the arts can be reflected around us more and creativity can have a larger feature in our day to day life, it will uplift us individually, our wellbeing and in turn, our communities.
